OBDF_3D Printing Project Concepting

My initial approach was to incorporate my laser cut project as discussed. But after much headache on how I would go about marrying a already complete box to something printed and polished I decided the first project living its life as a pencil holder fulfilled the "holding" project brief and I could move on to 3D printing with a blank slate.

I began by exploring space age mid century design as the sleek aesthetic I felt would lend well to 3D printing.

Then tried to once again take a utilitarian approach and conceptualize something useful and pretty.

I have decided to do something that will ideally serve as a table lamp. Similar to the glass table above I want to make a lamp that appears to be a floating ball with a cloth over it. See below for some references.
